Government shutdown may impact your Oct FEC filings
The federal government shut down may affect your October filing deadlines.
According to the FEC, during the shutdown they cannot guarantee how long FEC servers will remain online. This means that you may or may not be be able to continue filing reports.
Crimson users will still be able to create reports in CrimsonFiler (and DexFile). Here is the FEC's official statement on their closure.
Since we don’t know when the federal government may open again, there are a few things you may need to know about filings:
What happens if the federal government is not open by October 15 or October 20, when quarterly and monthly reports are due?
The FEC’s servers are still operating. However, if there are any technical issues or problems, no one will be there to fix them. If you cannot file due to technical difficulties, you will have 24 hours after the FEC reopens to file your reports.
What happens if I have an RFAI due or need to file an amendment while the government is shut down?
You can still upload your reports as long as there are no technical difficulties on the FEC’s end. You will also have 24 hours after the FEC reopens to file your amendments and responses without penalty if there are technical issues.
What do I do if I need to speak with my analyst?
Analysts will not be responding to emails or phone calls until the FEC reopens. If you have a question about how to file something on your report that you need to have clarified by an analyst, you will need to wait.
If the shutdown continues, you may not hear back from them within 24 hours as they will have a bit of catching up to do. If this happens, we recommend you file during the 24 hours and then file an amendment once you have spoken to your analyst. It is better to file something and need to amend it than to receive a Failure to File.
